just another tame rock girl

Guess Who?

I’m 6’3″. I can breathe fire. You better have a commanding personality and be able to handle me in bed.

Hint: She used to be a pussy, and now she is a Hunn.

Plus keep checking Bad Girl – Good Woman for release of the upcoming Say Something Nasty video filmed recently in Austin, Texas which also happens to be the home of Nashville Pussy’s webmistress Country Starr. Not only does she do the webmaiden stuff but she’s an artiste’ de jour too.

Corey Parks

Love
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Best wishes to Corey who played with Duane Peters and The Hunns on June 7 in Hollywood.

Check out the photos.

At a The Damned show in 2002, Peters met future wife Corey Parks, who had just left her previous band, Nashville Pussy. Parks joined Duane Peters and the Hunns on bass guitar and soon the band changed their name to Die Hunns, recorded a fourth full-length album entitled Long Legs, Die’ Hunns, and embarked on another tour.

The Hunns playing “L.A. Doom” at Vinyl Solution record store in Huntington Beach CA. I think this was in July 2002. All I know is it was boiling hot in there, so July sounds about right. This was the Hunns’ first live show, waaay before Corey joined. Fans of the Humpers might recognize Mark Lee playing guitar. Hope you like it.

2/12/17 I updated this post because all the links are fatally busted.  Fact is youtube did not exist when this was originally posted in 2002. But I’m happy it’s here now as both of these are stunning great! BMF would love it. Peace and love baby! Miss you every single fucking second.

Nashville Pussy Interview – October of 2001 by Antimusic

This is a great video interview for those of you who haven’t heard it yet. I don’t know who the guy is doing the interview but he’s really good. His pen name is Phil Dis., who is probably a real sober respectable type journalist because he asked good and sometimes tough questions. If you can’t get a chance to talk to the members of Nashville Pussy before or after a show, this interview will give you a little bit of their off stage essence. They are real down to earth people who love their music, fans, and lifestyle.

The interview is approximately 12 minutes long. It has very poor video quality and some gaps in the sound, but it’s still a really great listen. NP talks about touring and how much they love it and how they go crazy when they are off the road. Phil asks Blaine what direction the third album would take considering the first album, “Let Them Eat Pussy” was more raw and punk than the second album’s, “Highway to Hell” hard rock sound. Blaine tells him the new album will be pretty much where the last album left off. They were hoping the new album would be out this past Christmas but were having problems with the album title…probably cause they want to call it, “Keep On Fuckin”…lol. Or maybe it’s what BMF and I were discussing…they are trying to come up with a cover design that will come close to the last two covers although the cover for “Let Them Eat Pussy” is one of a kind and will be hard to ever top. The album is first being released in Japan before being released here in the USA sometime in April.

However they have been playing a few of their new songs on tour since May or so last year … “Drunk Daddy” , “Say Something Nasty”, and “Keep On Fuckin'” . I also learned from the interview “You Give Drugs a Bad Name” is also a new song. I don’t know why but we thought it was one of their older songs. I guess because we saw them perform it at the Echo in Atlanta this past November. So it seemed like a oldie or someting but oh contrare because it’s really one of the highlights of their live show…the part where Blaine starts his storytelling and really gets the crowd cranking. We have a small piece of video of it from Colorado. After hearing the interview and reading this and this, it’s pretty clear the song is about Corey Parks. Blaine was real cool about it though when asked if Corey quit or was fired…he confirmed Corey was the one who quit the band.

One part of the interview seemed a little sad considering Tracy has now left the band under strange circumstances. Phil asked Tracey how she liked playing with NP and how it compared to her experiences with Helldorado and Wives. Tracey seemed really cool talking about how much more organized things were and how nice and “uncrazy” everyone was in NP. Phil also asked who wrote the new songs for the album for which Blaine replied he wrote all the songs except for the two Tracey had written for the new album. Ouch.

Other stuff they talked about: what kind of cars they drive…mostly souped up Chevrolets..their musical influences..who they listen to now…discussion of the controversial Pussy name…and favorite places to play. Plus Blaine recalls a funny story about Slayer.

Nashville Pussy Travels to the Midwest

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

<img alt=”2.22.02 …NP at the Blue Note in Missouri” src=”/web/20020223062003im_/http://www.misschicky.com/22202BlueNote.jpg” border=”0″>

I think I’m starting to recover from the trip after about 36 hours of sleep in a big comfortable bed. I feel a little guilty about it too. I had a dream last night about NP and their two roadies driving and hauling their equipment all over the country. This band isn’t traveling in any big nice luxurious bus with a driver. NFW! They travel in two big vans with a U- Haul trailer. They haul their stuff into each club, set it up, get it tuned right, do a sound check, play a hard, hard, one hour, 15 song set, break it all down again, pack it up, haul it to the next town, and start all over again. Seems like it would become pretty dull after a while…but the one roadie(the guy with the cool dreads-what is his name..dammit)seemed to love it. His picture is on the NP website and I got his picture too. If I ever get them transferred from the Mac laptop to the Sony PC, I’ll post them here on the Chronicles. In the meantime you can see a lot of pictures on BMF’s site…cause he’s much faster than I’ll ever be. 🙂

NP played at the Granada Theatre in Lawrence, Kansas last night which is a 14 hour drive from Aspen. And that doesn’t take into account there was a huge snowstorm on Wednesday as they were leaving the Rocky Mountains. That would have given them a one night break to gear up for their show which I’m sure was kickass as usual. Tonight they play at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO…a measley three hour drive from Lawrence. It appears they have added a third band , Split Lip Rayfield, a band from Witchita, Kansas to this leg of the tour. They are described as Bluegrass Outlaws. We’ll fire Morpheus up to get a little taste.

Want to know how Nashville Pussy got started?

Blaine started it all off. We’ve done somewhere around 3000 shows as far as I can figure. We are a guitar driven band. I play bass and hold the foundation. Ruyter has been playing for about 23 years and Blaine has been playing for about 19 years. They write the songs and Blaine writes all the lyrics. Blaine was in a band called “Nine Pound Hammer” and I went to see them when I was living in North Carolina. I met with him and we hung out because his band had the next day off. I told him I was in this “All girl cock rock band” and I play bass. He asked if I was any good. The cool thing with Blaine was he talked about his wife (bandmate and lead guitarist Ruyter) all night. Girls can smell bullshit a mile away and the fact that he could talk about his old lady all night long really showed me that he was for real. He even called her up and we talked. We ended up meeting and talked about starting a band called the “Homewreckers” but it sort of just fizzled out. About 6 months later I got a phone call saying that “Hammer” is still together but Me (Blaine), Ruyter and Adam (the old Hammer drummer) are jamming in Kentucky but we need a bass player can you be here this coming weekend. I had no car, my bass was in hock! 🙁 I took a 23 hour bus ride and showed up on the doorstep. And then I also mentioned that I breathe fire. It materialized over a boy. I did it to impress a boy! Anyways, so now the four of us are together, all 500 miles apart! Adam is in Kentucky, Ruyter and Blaine are in Nashville and I’m in North Carolina. We all jammed at Adam’s because his grandmother let us use the attic because she was a nurse and worked the graveyard shift. This let us jam all night long and that’s our hours. We’re usually ready to start jamming at about 1 in the morning, and then take a break at about 6am. We jammed for several times for 3 days at a time. Blaine had 5 songs done. He’d send them to me on a tape. I’d learn them and then come up to the jam session with what I learned and we learned 6 covers so we had about a 30 minute set. We did covers of Elvis, Mitch Ryder, ZZ Top we did all kinds of covers. Soon we started hookin up our own tours. The first one was for 4 days. Then the next was for 10. Then the next was for 4 weeks, then 8 weeks. We never booked gigs with just us playing. We always played with other bands and stole their audiences. It was amazing! We just stayed on the road. After the 6 week tour we all quit our jobs and decided that we all needed to move into the same house. Blaine and Ruyter’s house in Nashville had burned down so we figured we’d continue touring. We would drive 1000 miles out to Phoenix to do a record store show for 14 people on our day off! Blaine had a little 6 cylinder van with one door welded shut and windows that wouldn’t go down. We loaded the van, the four of us hopped in with one other guy that did everything for us….sound, mic’s, tech stuff and we just hit the road. By the end of that 6 week tour Peter Davis had called us up and he kept us on the road. He was impressed because we sold out a place in Minneapolis on a Monday night! His eyes just lit up so we started working together. We did 20 months with only 10 weeks off. The records were never even thought of. Those all came as a result of the touring….and playing those songs thousands of times.

BMF Wisdom

Nashville Pussy at the Colorado Music Hall
February 17, 2002

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Hey Pussy Fans, I have some news about Tracy leaving the band and some news on the new bass player Katie. I had the chance to talk to Ruyter after their show last night in Colorado Springs. It turns out that even the band themselves have no idea as to why Tracy quit the band. Ruyter said she sent the band an E-Mail simply stating that she quit. No explanation, no nothing. Ruyter says they were blown away cause as far as they knew things were going along great. She went on to tell me that they sent email after email to Tracy begging her to at least tell them why she wanted to quit, to say she was ok or something, anything to explain why but they only recieved one other email from her saying,” My decision is final.” Ruyter told me that they were truly upset over the whole deal not only cause she quit abrubtly, but because they truly love her and are concerned about her. So it seems only Tracy can answer why she left the band cause the rest of the band sure in the hell doesn’t know.

Ruyter asked me if I liked their “Katie” and I told her hell yes and asked her if the band liked her. Her response “oh fuck yeah!” She went on to tell me that they feel like things have actually worked out better for the band this way and described Katie as “a cross between Corey & Tracy, and after only her 3rd show with the band she is kicking ass.”

Last night’s show at the Colorado Music Hall did kick major ass. It seems like they get better with each show. The majority of the crowd last night were obviously there for The Reverend. Three songs into Nashville Pussys show, I had to go out into lobby for a second and there were a buttload of people out there just hangin around. I wanted to go up to each one of them and tell them they were missing one kick ass band. So I watched the crowd when I got back in the arena and they were just kinda standing there not sure how to react. By the middle of their set though, NP had obviously won them over as the crowd started moving and screaming. Katie gets better with each show. Ruyter rules over the stage every night, this night being no exception. Blaine is a BadMotherFucker period. Jeremy seems to effortlessly bash the drums like no other, proven by the way he splinters his drumsticks. I love it when Blaine talks between songs. Their new song,”Keep on Fuckin’, gets better every night. This tour is KICKING FUCKING ASS and I’m so fuckin’ happy to be here doing this. No matter how star struck I may get though, the only person that really gets me is Miss Chicky. She cuts me the deepest every night. I love you baby.

A few pictures from last night’s show…

Miss Chicky’s Observations about Nashville Pussy

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Last night was my 5th time to experience Nashville Pussy. I admit the first time was the very best because the first time is always the best plus it left my ears ringing and my jaw dropping for two days. But each time since has been its own good experience. Like the time a sex store sponsored the show and strippers and porn stars were mingling around, or the time the guy threw up on my new shoes and I still felt sorry for him, or when I finally got to see NP with Jeff for the first time and some guy who claimed he played bass for James Brown kept feeding him Jagermeisters. I didn’t know if he would still be awake to see NP after that but he made it. Barely. So a NP show is always going to be eventful in some way. That could explain why we picked Nashville Pussy to be the first band to follow around for a few days. We had talked about doing it for about two years and finally just went for it. Or maybe we finally made the decision because Nashville Pussy’s first tour of 2002 opened in some of Colorado’s best resorts but mostly it was just cause of Nashville Pussy.

Nashville Pussy is the best live act going and last night was no exception. I can only compare them to Iggy Pop in terms of energy and playing to the crowd. That thought just gave me a fleeting fantasy. A Iggy and NP tour. Goddamn.

Last night we got to see Katie the new bass player. I spent my time watching her play. Maybe because that’s the side of the stage I was sitting on…tonight I plan to be on the other side. It was obvious everyone was trying to make Katie feel comfortable especially Ruyter who had Katie by her side before and after the show introducing her around. But Katie looked pretty comfy to me once they started playing. I’d say her stage style is very similar to Tracy Almazon’s style, kinda reserved and laid back. Even though some guy there told us the last time NP played the 8150 Club Tracy was spitting water at the crowd! Oh wooo. But who knows…maybe Katie just had first night jitters and her wild side will come out soon. After all she was a Vampire once upon a time.

I just have to add that no matter how many bass players NP goes thru, and I’ve seen all three now, the NP experience will always be about Ruyter and Blaine. Sure, it was great when Corey was there because she was so stunning and kinda cartoonish in a sexy way and it was pretty cool she could breathe fire and all, but it’s Ruyter your eyes always travel back to…that girl has the goods and it’s not just a novelty.

That other band playing,The Reverend Horton Heat, seemed pretty damn good too. The Vail frat boy/dumb blonde type crowd was really into them. I think I’ll be sipping plain water tonight so I can stay for the whole show and really hear their music with an untainted mind.

Rumor has it…

there will be famous monsters.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

According to the Nashville Pussy board Tracy has indeed left the band and has been replaced by Katie Campbell, formally known as Vampire Girl who played with Famous Monsters, a trio of female monsters who played surf rock. Monsters? Surf rock? Katie played rythmn guitar. More on Famous Monsters…

We will wait and see…but it won’t matter much since as far as I’m concerned…Ruyter is the show. I mean Corey was great because she could breathe fire and had an incredible “eat me” tat across her stomach and Tracy seems so sweet and has really nice nipples…but its hard to take your eyes off of Ruyter. She’s the real deal. But a Vampire Girl might be very interesting indeed.

When Corey left…

* The band claimed to be better off without Corey Parks, the six-foot-three, fire-breathing bassist who suddenly quit last fall. The gimmick has been replaced by musicianship, Suys says happily.

“I was very pro-Corey for a long time, but she bit us pretty hard when she left. We had no intention of kicking her out, but she quit on the eve of a very big tour. We had our whole lives planned out. She quit at a very inopportune moment, but she had been driving everyone so crazy that no one cared. No one was around to defend her. I have the feeling it was rooted in chemicals.”

* Before replacement bassist Tracy Almazon was hired, she worked as a bartender at Nashville Pussy’s favourite after-hours bar in New York.

“We phoned her up the day after Corey quit. We had a European tour to do, this Tattoo the Earth festival. We didn’t know what the hell was going on other than we were booked solid and we needed a bass player. So she said, ‘Well, I know the songs already.’ So we said, ‘fuck, yeah, we’ll meet you in Portland in front of 10,000 screaming teenagers.’ We rehearsed on the bus.” [via Edmonton Sun 5.23.01]
