Nashville Pussy Interview – October of 2001 by Antimusic

This is a great video interview for those of you who haven’t heard it yet. I don’t know who the guy is doing the interview but he’s really good. His pen name is Phil Dis., who is probably a real sober respectable type journalist because he asked good and sometimes tough questions. If you can’t get a chance to talk to the members of Nashville Pussy before or after a show, this interview will give you a little bit of their off stage essence. They are real down to earth people who love their music, fans, and lifestyle.

The interview is approximately 12 minutes long. It has very poor video quality and some gaps in the sound, but it’s still a really great listen. NP talks about touring and how much they love it and how they go crazy when they are off the road. Phil asks Blaine what direction the third album would take considering the first album, “Let Them Eat Pussy” was more raw and punk than the second album’s, “Highway to Hell” hard rock sound. Blaine tells him the new album will be pretty much where the last album left off. They were hoping the new album would be out this past Christmas but were having problems with the album title…probably cause they want to call it, “Keep On Fuckin”…lol. Or maybe it’s what BMF and I were discussing…they are trying to come up with a cover design that will come close to the last two covers although the cover for “Let Them Eat Pussy” is one of a kind and will be hard to ever top. The album is first being released in Japan before being released here in the USA sometime in April.

However they have been playing a few of their new songs on tour since May or so last year … “Drunk Daddy” , “Say Something Nasty”, and “Keep On Fuckin'” . I also learned from the interview “You Give Drugs a Bad Name” is also a new song. I don’t know why but we thought it was one of their older songs. I guess because we saw them perform it at the Echo in Atlanta this past November. So it seemed like a oldie or someting but oh contrare because it’s really one of the highlights of their live show…the part where Blaine starts his storytelling and really gets the crowd cranking. We have a small piece of video of it from Colorado. After hearing the interview and reading this and this, it’s pretty clear the song is about Corey Parks. Blaine was real cool about it though when asked if Corey quit or was fired…he confirmed Corey was the one who quit the band.

One part of the interview seemed a little sad considering Tracy has now left the band under strange circumstances. Phil asked Tracey how she liked playing with NP and how it compared to her experiences with Helldorado and Wives. Tracey seemed really cool talking about how much more organized things were and how nice and “uncrazy” everyone was in NP. Phil also asked who wrote the new songs for the album for which Blaine replied he wrote all the songs except for the two Tracey had written for the new album. Ouch.

Other stuff they talked about: what kind of cars they drive…mostly souped up Chevrolets..their musical influences..who they listen to now…discussion of the controversial Pussy name…and favorite places to play. Plus Blaine recalls a funny story about Slayer.
