Last night was my 5th time to experience Nashville Pussy. I admit the first time was the very best because the first time is always the best plus it left my ears ringing and my jaw dropping for two days. But each time since has been its own good experience. Like the time a sex store sponsored the show and strippers and porn stars were mingling around, or the time the guy threw up on my new shoes and I still felt sorry for him, or when I finally got to see NP with Jeff for the first time and some guy who claimed he played bass for James Brown kept feeding him Jagermeisters. I didn’t know if he would still be awake to see NP after that but he made it. Barely. So a NP show is always going to be eventful in some way. That could explain why we picked Nashville Pussy to be the first band to follow around for a few days. We had talked about doing it for about two years and finally just went for it. Or maybe we finally made the decision because Nashville Pussy’s first tour of 2002 opened in some of Colorado’s best resorts but mostly it was just cause of Nashville Pussy.

Nashville Pussy is the best live act going and last night was no exception. I can only compare them to Iggy Pop in terms of energy and playing to the crowd. That thought just gave me a fleeting fantasy. A Iggy and NP tour. Goddamn.

Last night we got to see Katie the new bass player. I spent my time watching her play. Maybe because that’s the side of the stage I was sitting on…tonight I plan to be on the other side. It was obvious everyone was trying to make Katie feel comfortable especially Ruyter who had Katie by her side before and after the show introducing her around. But Katie looked pretty comfy to me once they started playing. I’d say her stage style is very similar to Tracy Almazon’s style, kinda reserved and laid back. Even though some guy there told us the last time NP played the 8150 Club Tracy was spitting water at the crowd! Oh wooo. But who knows…maybe Katie just had first night jitters and her wild side will come out soon. After all she was a Vampire once upon a time.

I just have to add that no matter how many bass players NP goes thru, and I’ve seen all three now, the NP experience will always be about Ruyter and Blaine. Sure, it was great when Corey was there because she was so stunning and kinda cartoonish in a sexy way and it was pretty cool she could breathe fire and all, but it’s Ruyter your eyes always travel back to…that girl has the goods and it’s not just a novelty.

That other band playing,The Reverend Horton Heat, seemed pretty damn good too. The Vail frat boy/dumb blonde type crowd was really into them. I think I’ll be sipping plain water tonight so I can stay for the whole show and really hear their music with an untainted mind.
